Clearwater Beach live cameras and when each one is worth opening
At 20:11 local on 2026-11-04 there was almost nothing in the Clearwater Beach frame except Pier 60 itself. A white line of lamps running straight out into the Gulf, four palms lit green at the landward end, and one boat sitting off the pier head with its deck lights on. That is the view from the FOX 13 camera on the Clearwater Beach Hilton, and after dark it is the one I would open first.
Searching for a Clearwater Beach cam gets you one camera at a time, usually the panorama from Pier House 60, with no sign of where it points or when anything happens in front of it. The ones below all sit within 1.2 km of the pier, they look at quite different things, and the useful question is which to open at which hour.
The strip either side of the pier
Everything below is within 1.2 km of the pier head at 27.9775 N, 82.8311 W. Distances are great-circle from that point to each camera's stored position, worked out on 2026-11-05 from the Clearwater camera list.
- Crows Nest Florida Sunset Vista, 0.2 km, the closest to the pier of any of them. It sits on the roof of the Edge hotel and its operator labels it the Crows Nest sunset view, so it is pointed west. At 20:16 on 2026-11-04 it was serving a flat grey frame, which is what a west-facing camera has to show three hours after sunset, so try this one in the hour before 17:44 instead.
- Clearwater Beach Pier Panorama, 0.7 km. Despite the name this is Frenchy's Rockaway Grill looking down on its own beach deck: shade sails, rows of loungers, umbrellas folded for the night, sand and Gulf behind. At 20:16 on 2026-11-04 the deck was lit and empty.
- Florida Coastal Fish Deck Panorama, 1.1 km. Jimmy's Fish House deck, string lights strung over the tables. Two people were sitting at one of them when I looked.
- 505 at the Edge Hotel at 1.1 km and Jimmy's on the Edge at 0.7 km are the same hotel from two different heights.
- Clearwater Beach, 0.4 km, run by Wetmet. The widest night frame of the lot: the full length of the pier, the lit palms along the seawall, and a good stretch of sand in the foreground.
- FOX 13 Clearwater Beach Hilton, 0.4 km. Same rooftop as the Wetmet camera, cropped tighter, with the station's banner across the top.
Two cameras on one rooftop is duplication, but they are not the same picture. The station's frame is tighter and brighter and loses the sand. The weather network's is wider and darker and keeps it. On a clear evening the wide one is the better sunset and the tight one is the better pier.
When it is worth opening
Sunrise at the pier on 2026-11-05 is 06:45 and sunset is 17:44. You do not have to work that out for yourself on any given day: every camera page carries the pair in the conditions bar along the top, beside the local time and temperature, so the Pier Panorama page tells you how long you have before the light goes.
Those two times are most of the schedule. Sunsets at Pier 60, the nightly craft and busker festival in Pier 60 Park, runs "two hours before to two hours after sunset each evening, weather permitting", which on 2026-11-05 puts it at about 15:45 to 19:45. So the hour that actually has something in it is 15:45 onwards, when the park fills up and the light goes long, rather than the middle of the day when the beach is bright and flat. Its own Hours and Directions page still lists 18:00 to 22:00, which the About page calls the summer hours, so go by sunset instead.
South to Belleair, north to Dunedin
Off the beach itself the coverage spreads out. Belleair is 6 km south, a Windy camera looking south-west from height; at 01:11 UTC its frame was a dark sky over the causeway, with the bridge lights and the traffic on it strung across the bottom. Dunedin is 7.5 km north, another Wetmet frame, pointed inland rather than at the water. Both are worth a look in daylight and neither is a beach camera at night.
South of Belleair the Gulf front thins out quickly. Checking a 6 km circle around Indian Shores on 2026-11-05, the only camera inside it was a school weather camera 2.5 km away, so Indian Shores and the Redingtons have nothing pointed at the water.
Inland there are two more: Clearwater at 3.7 km and City of Clearwater at 14.7 km, both video streams rather than still frames. Neither sees sand. If you want the city instead of the beach, those are the two.
What the still frames actually do after dark
Video or still matters more here than which beach the camera sits on. Frenchy's, Jimmy's Fish House and the two Edge hotel cameras are continuous video, so they move when the beach moves. The Wetmet, FOX 13 and Belleair cameras are single images that get replaced on the server every so often, and the gap between replacements is both longer and less regular than you would guess.
I pulled all three of them every 15 seconds for eleven minutes on 2026-11-05, from 01:21:59 to 01:32:49 UTC. FOX 13 gave me five different frames in that time, on no sort of schedule: a gap of five and a half minutes, then one of four, then three frames inside 48 seconds. Wetmet managed three, roughly four minutes apart. Belleair gave me two, eight and a half minutes apart. A still camera here will sit on the same picture for four or five minutes and then drop several in under a minute, so refreshing the page on a fixed rhythm mostly gets you the image you already had.
That is fine for what they are good at. A still camera that replaces its frame every few minutes is the right tool for watching the colour of the sky change, and it is the wrong tool for watching a pelican.
What I am doing next
Everything above was checked after dark, between 01:11 and 01:27 UTC on 2026-11-05, which is the worst possible hour for a beach. The views I have described for the two rooftop cameras and for Belleair are night views, and I owe this stretch a daylight pass at about 17:30 local, when the sun is low and the Pier 60 park is full. I will also time the rest of the cameras rather than the three I managed here, because the only refresh figure worth printing is one somebody actually sat and measured.
If you want one camera and no decisions: open the Wetmet Clearwater Beach frame at 17:30 local. It has the pier, the palms and the most sky of any of them, and 17:44 is when it earns its keep.
